THE CLIENT

Kina is a modern Cantonese eatery opening the heart of East Vancouver serving nostalgic Canto dishes in a modern setting. Their name is inspired by the old Kina hotel in Vancouver’s Chinatown and the word China in Swedish—’kina’, two places the owner has ties to. They source their ingredients locally and are proud to share with the city the delicious foods that they grew up eating in their household.

THE KEYWORDS
Nostalgic / Unique / Welcoming / Classic

THE CHALLENGE
How can we keep Cantonese cuisine relevant and appealing to a younger Vancouver market? How can we show that Kina is authentic yet is classy enough to be worth a place to spend some time and money at with friends?

THE SOLUTION
We created an identity that speaks to a crowd that likes to frequent beautiful food spots on their weeknights and weekends.

The colours are inspired by a clash of the classic Chinese lucky red and the blue of Chinese porcelain patterns. Together they vibrate with energy, much like a buzz of a traditional Cantonese places. The photography style used captures vivid snapshots of real moments at the restaurant which add to the authenticity.
